A little question for my readers...

While brushing my teeth this evening, I just notice my first grey hair... in one of my eyebrows. I now have grey (Actually, it's more of a silver color. But that sounds so pretentious) on the top of my head, in my mustache and beard (goatee) and now my eyebrows.

I’m thirty-one, and I sort-of look like Zed, from Day by Day©. Only a bit shorter, and a bit rounder. (I’m slowly working on the rounder part, but alas, I’m stuck with the shorter part.) But same general head/hair style and outlook on life. (Yet not quite as technologically inept…)

So, the question for everyone is:

How long before I get ear hair? How old were you when you found your first grey hair?

(And for the TMI files, I also have a few grey nose-hairs. :-D)

(And I don’t know why I spell gray “grey”. It just looks better that way to me. Besides, it’s the correct spelling in England.)

I was 18 when I noticed my first grey hair. (I spell grey the same way, always have) But what really got me was when I was 28 I noticed my first grey hair in my pubic region. THAT hit me hard. My father had grey hair at an early age, my mother was iron grey by the time she was 40. So I was prepared to go grey at a young age. However grey pubic hair bothered me. That made me feel old.

I was 18 too. But I have dark hair so it shows up more like white. I found too that if you pull em, a bunch of little white hairs come in at the same place, blasted white hairs!

At 24, I noticed one on top of my head, right in front, at the hairline. Yes, I yanked it.

I'm noticably salty on the sides now at 38, and it sticks out, what with my black hair & all.

Woman's input:

I was actually born with grey hair. In one area of my hair - so I started coloring at the age of 16. With flat black hair it was a must.

However - at the ripe old age of 41 I woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and ARRGGGHHHHH! I found grey everywhere I looked. Not good. Not good at all.

I'm fighting tooth and nail. Color is my friend (buy stock in Clarol if you have the chance.)

Got my first grey hair at around age 30, so I started coloring it myself. By the time I was 40, I had too much grey for over the counter... so I let my hair dresser handle the "gray-be-gone" part. I'm at least 50% by now, probably more. The older I get, the lighter the brown I have the hair dresser use - and I get highlights (blonder streaks) put in to cover any stray grey that shows through. One day I'll let it go natural... but not yet. *grin*

I noticed my first gray at 23. I am now 39 and only have 9. I have one gray eyelash and one gray eyebrow hair. Kind of odd. My eldest son, who is 10 next week, has more gray than I do. I don't make a big deal about mine for fear he will be self conscious. Premature graying runs on both sides of our family, but missed me. (My Mom is 64 and has little gray.) My son... he will be iron gray by 25 and snow white by 35.

My accursed Beloved Wife (TNT) has no gray to speak of, and my biggest delight is when I can find one - which usually takes about 5 minutes of picking & searching.

And she's 37.

That's just disgusting!

LOL @ previous comments. I started turning gray at 31 or maybe 32 now 34 and i'm shamed for my mom, 52, has zero, zilch, none! of those awful grays. I get those, along with my short legs, from my dad's side. But I'll be damned if my pubes aren't turning too and it's embarrassing. Help! Should I use Clarol in the nether region or go au natural? I'm serious. Very unhappy about this and have even considered buying "miracle anti-graying pills" online even though I'm sure they won't work.

Enjoyed reading your blog! Found you while doing a search about whether people can dye hair (down there) or not, and how to do it. Ended up here reading about grey hair! Then I just saw on your March 26 post: "But I'll be damned if my pubes aren't turning too and it's embarrassing" CAN'T BELIEVE you had the nerve to put that on the internet - If you can do it - I can too - right? ...Funny stuff. As far as the greys...I am embarrassed by it too - really bad! "What a drag it is getting old..." How old r u BTW? I am only 45.
ANYWAY, Thanks for the 4 am chuckle - and with that I will now finally go to bed..nitey nite!

I was 43 when I first started seeing grey hairs on my head. I have plucked them out ever since. So now I have lots more in the back than I do in the front and sides. LOL. DUH. And it is true - 3 more do come in where you pluck one out. I am living proof. Also My head itches where I have grey hair coming in sometimes. Wierd, Huh?
